Local Elements is an art gallery located on Highway 61 “The Great River Road” in downtown Lake City, Minnesota. This area is known for outdoor recreation and scenic views. The bluffs lining both shores of the Mississippi River and an expansive section of the river known as Lake Pepin offer beautiful vistas unique to the upper Midwest.

Local Elements opened in June 2009 as an extension of the unique wonders and regional talent of the area. The gallery showcases work by local, Midwest artists at emerging, mid-career and established levels of their careers. A visit to the physical or virtual gallery will surprise you with a wide-ranging selection of artwork by over twenty-five artists. Local Elements features fine art painting, photography and sculpture along with original designs in jewelry, fiber art, turned wood, pottery and glass. The gallery also carries a selection of one-of-a-kind tote bags and artful cards.

Artist Kate Bauman, a Lake City native who returned to the area in December 2007, owns Local Elements. In addition to managing the gallery, Kate works on sculpture and pottery in her studio adjacent to Local Elements. Her work is displayed in the gallery and at art centers and exhibition spaces around the state and the country. Kate also enjoys sharing her love of art and the creative process through teaching at Rochester Community and Technical College and Northern Clay Center. Kate’s spouse, Troy Marcio, lends a hand in the gallery talking with visitors and contributing carpentry skills and a professional background in accounting. Whenever possible, Troy works on custom-built acoustic guitars in his studio connected to the gallery.

As a new art venture in Lake City, Local Elements offers an eclectic mix of functional and fine art reflective of the diverse talents of upper Midwest artists. With each gallery season, from May through December, Local Elements hopes to add artists and artwork from regionally recognized artists and rising newcomers. Visit often to discover what’s new!
